Show #3 Correction: VMWare

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

In show #3 I stated that of all the Windows enablers we tried, VMWare was the only one that successfully ran my Logitech Digital Pen. I was basing that on the fact that the software install went fine and when I plugged the pen in, Windows recognized it. That’s as far as I got for […]

The Linux User Show #003 (MP3 – 22MB – 48min 35sec)
LISTEN HERE
This week we explore Windows ‘enablers’: those programs that allow you to run Windows applications in Linux. For some of us, we can’t move entirely to Linux because we have a mission critical application that only runs in Windows. Well, take a […]

Linux Hardware Compatiblity

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

I found a list of hardware that is compatible with Linux (or at least people have reportedly been able to get said hardware working with Linux). I added it to the links at the right hand side.

Upgrade Schmozzle

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Blog entries are a little sparse the last few days. I attempted to upgrade from Fedora Core 3 to Fedora Core 4 and that just totally blew up in my face. The FC4 upgrade broke my desktop, my soundcard, and did something to make my laptop run like it’s wallowing in molasses.
I then decided that […]

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

Due to the comments left on my original Puppy Linux review, here, I have decided to re-review it using the…ahem…most current version.
This review is based my distro review framework which can be found here.
Puppy Linux version 1.0.3

Easy to find:

Website contains information on what versions are available: 2/2
Working links to download repository: 1/2. Not well organized, […]

This week’s podcast will be on what I call ‘Windows Enablers’. These are the assorted emulators and applications that allow users to run Windows applications in Linux.

Fedora Core 4 Out!

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

I’m working on a way to get the latest releases from Distrowatch on this blow, but until I do I’ll be posting them manually.
Yes…I only went there today to see if my Fedora Core 4 was out and it was! So, I’m starting the distro notification with Fedora.

Puppy Linux Live Reviewed

Monday, June 13th, 2005

I had a chance to check out Puppy Linux Live CD today. It sure is small and it boots pretty fast, but I don’t think it’s really suitable for beginner Linux users.
It’s important to note that I reviewed the Live CD only and I did it with a view of how suitable it is for […]
