Test Machine
I’m a little apprehensive about posting this because I don’t know how you guys are going to take it. But as they say, “No Guts, No Glory” so here goes…
If you haven’t heard about Fundable.org, it’s a new-ish website where you can create a fundraising campaign to raise money for something. Essentially you have a cause, pick a target amount to raise, and set an end date. If the target isn’t reached by the end date then everyone who contributed gets their money back. If the target is reached, well…then you go do whatever it is you set out to do.
I ws playing around with Fundable a few weeks ago and created a fundraiser to get funds together to build a test machine for the GNU/Linux User Show. Then I promptly forgot about it….
After a few weeks of forgetting about the Fundable campaign, I got an email yesterday. Someone stumbled across my campaign and thought it was a good enough idea to contribute.
Originally I wasn’t going to do anything with this campaign because I wasn’t sure how listeners would take a request for donations for a test platform, but at least one person thought it was a good enough idea to contribute without me ever saying a word. So, now that the campaign has truly begun, it has kind of rekindled my interest and I’m throwing it out there for you guys.
Here’s the scoop - I have an almost complete machine in my house. It just needs a wireless NIC and some more RAM to make it a suitable test platform for The GNU/Linux User Show. A test machine will enable me to run applications, do installs, and generally muck around with the thing to an extent that I’m not willing to do on my own machine. Hopefully this means better shows since I can try more things and demonstrate more functionality using the test machine.
To that end, I’m trying to raise $100(USD) to upgrade the machine, Each person is asked to contribute $5 (since I can’t figure out how to ask for ‘any amount’) and the campaign is running until September 19th. As mentioned, if the $100 target isn’t reached, then everyone gets their money back. If it is reached…then I get to upgrade the machine and hopefully give better shows to all.
Here’s the link if you’re interested in helping out.
Thanks!
