Test Machine Resurrected.
Great news!
A member of the Calgary Linux User’s Group (who wishes to remain anonymous) has donated a whole schwack-load of hardware to the cause. I think I have enough stuff now to build the test machine and it’s going to be better than the original plan.
Hopefully I’ll have some time tomorrow to build it.
I think it’s a good idea for me to put an RPM based distro using Gnome on it. I’ve been using Debian based distros with KDE for a while now and I’m starting to forget how to do things the other way.
Any requests for the first distro I put on?

just a suggestion, but if you are looking for a robust, RPM based distro that is a bit diffrent from the norm, have you considered slackware? Granted that it is not very n00b friendly, it is a good way to demonstrate linux’s stregnth as a versitle tool for applications such as DHCP and HTTP/FTP servers. Slackware has been a favorite of mine for a while now, I think it will suite your needs nicely.

Heya!
I’ve actually wanted to try Slack for a while now. That’s another thing this test machine will do for me - it will allow me to try pretty much anything I want without destroying my main system.
There’s lots of things I want to try like Slack and Gentoo :)

Hey Jon,
I would cast my vote for mandrake/riva (mandriva, dosen’t that sound like something that would
drivel out of the corner of ones mouth). I think you can download the 10.1 offical ISO’s or DVD
from LinuxIso.org.

Hi Lance,
OK - vote cast!
I’m having a bit of a problem getting the thing running, but once I do I’ll start checking out the listener suggested distros.
I *did* try Mandriva on my laptop once and it just signal sevened out of the install. I’ve never actually seen it running.
