Thanks Geoff!

I still need to do *something*. I'll play with the slider quality meter thingy for OGGs and see what that does.

You can't set the bitrate for OGG files in Audacity. From Audacity Help:

Note that unlike MP3 encoding, Ogg Vorbis does not let you set a bitrate, because some audio clips are easier to compress than others. Increasing the quality will always increase the file size, however.

Hi Rick,

I didn't forget this time, I just can't figure out how to. I use Audacity to create the MP3s and OGGs. Within the MP3 setup there's a place for bitrate and quality that I can play with, but within the OGG setup there appears to be only a quality setting from 1 - 10. I've been recording them at 5 and was a little hesitant to drop it down. I honestly don't know where to tell Audacity to tone it down a bit.

I hear ya, though, a 50MB file is a little big. I've asked a couple of people if they know how to do it and I'm waiting for a response. If you (or anyone else reading this) has any expertise in this area, please - please! - let me know and I'll do it.

BTW Jon, ummm... it looks like you forgot to convert the OGG file at a lower bitrate again. ;)

It seemed to me that it was a show abhout OOo, not about the book itself, which was really nice. I liked the historical part about StarOffice... brought back some memories :)

Thanks, Dadexter!

I actually trimmed about 15 minutes off of it. I wanted to trim more specifically because of the time, but it just all seemed like such good stuff that I couldn't bring myself to cut more.

I was wondering how the talk would be perceived. We were supposed to talk about Robin's Piont & Click OpenOffice.org but we didn't spend a whole lot of time on that, really. But I think that's why the chat ended up being so entertaining...we stumbled around a lot of topics.

I did enjoy speaking with Robin though, he's a pretty entertaining guy :)

Well, that was long... normally I would have gotten bored of such a long talk... but not this time. It was very entertaining, and Robin seemed to be a very nice person to chat with.
I had a few chuckles on the bus to work this morning, which got me a few weird looks from my fellow commuters.

Great show, and as I said before, keep up the good work!

dadexter,
a fellow canuck from the eastern parts :P
