Come Write a Book.

I have a half-baked (but still doing it!) idea to write a book about Podcasting in the GNU/Linux community. I don’t know much, but I figure by now I know as much as anyone else (well, except for Linc, Dan, Pat, and Allen) about this crazy podcasting thing so it’s time to immortalize some of it (the knowledge that is).

There’s something wilfully solitary about writing a book alone in the GNU/Linux community, so I’m not going to do it that way. We’re all going to write it together. I know that’s not a completely novel idea but it feels better than writing it alone in the middle of such a great community. Therefore, I will be posting it as I write it on my wiki for everyone to contribute to.

The working title of the book is Freecasting. Wikipedia has no entry for that, so, I consider it wide open.

Everything you need to know about how we’re doing this, where to hang out, what to do, etc can be found on my wiki at the link below. To start things off, I’ve posted my first attempt at the table of contents. Someone told me once that books should start with a table of contents. Sounds good to me…So go - modify it, add to it, make it better.

The finished version will be available in many formats, but one will be free and online.

    Thanks Judland,

I talked to Todd once about an unrelated matter. He seems like a pretty decent guy and I know he has a book on podcasting out there.

One of the comments in there is the issue of an expensive mic. I utterly disagree with that. While there is definitely some meaure of qualty expected, I’ve spent a grand total of $50 in gear since day one. Many podcasters like to tell people that they have to spend lots of money, but it’s just not true. They’re ignoring the fact that content is king, man. Nobody cares how much your mic costs if your broadcasting crap.

    Content content content.

That’s just one of many issues that I intend to address in the FLOSS Podcasting area.
