While I think it's great that The Podcast Network wants a new Linux show, and I will SURELY subscribe to it as I did Jon's, at the end of the day, UNLIKE a TV/Radio show, the hosts of a podcast make all the show decisions and parts etc as well as presenting and therefore ARE the show (as mentioned by someone else earlier).

I would definately encourage The Podcast Network to represent this more like the END of one Linux show and the START of another - as that is what it would be.

Excellent use of the word 'vitriolic'.

You're right - this is like a traffic accident. It's time for me to put this to bed and move on.

While I responded to Jon privately on the day of his departure from TPN, he insists on dragging this issue into the public, and, in light of the fact that some of Jon’s comments on his personal blog are not only hurtful but defamatory, I will provide one brief explanation.

Jon had previously discussed with me his concerns about the sustainability of the current show format and we had discussed ways to remedy that, as I believed he was as asset to TPN. Show #29, which I received from Jon at midnight Jan 9, was in my opinion sub-standard. The first half consisted of Kelly reading Jon’s notes and the second half announcing their departure from TPN and promoting their new show. It was clear from Show #29 that there was no room for show #30. However, in the best interests of making the right decision, I decided to sleep on it before I responded to Jon with my feelings. After the departure of a previous host who deleted all of his TPN blog posts before leaving, a business decision was made to immediately restrict user accounts when a host announces their resignation. This is no reflection on Jon or Kelly, purely a business decision to protect our asset that applies across the board. In retrospect, had it occurred to me that the cancellation would cause Jon this much concern, I would have dropped him a quick email to explain. For this, Jon, I sincerely apologize. However, I am dismayed that after a previously good working relationship, Jon would so quickly jump to the conclusion that this was a vindictive act against him, and then respond in such a vitriolic way against me and TPN on his personal blog. I don’t wish to enter into further debate about this and while it would be my preference to deal with this privately, Jon keeps dragging it into the public domain. Again, as in my private email to Jon, I wish him and Kelly all the very best.

That's all true.

Everything was cool until you locked us out of the blog with no notice.

But "GNU" and "Linux"? They're not two separate things in this context, Cam. It's GNU/Linux.

People, people, people - it was Jon's decision to resign. Whatever his real reasons were, he told me that doing this show was too much work. I suggested he continue doing it in another, less stressful format, but he declined the offer. So, yes, we will continue to look for someone to host a new show about GNU and Linux because it's subject that deserves a place on TPN. If anyone can suggest a better name for a show about GNU and Linux than the current title, please let me know your suggestions. And, as I said in the above post, I wish Jon and Kelly all the best for their future endeavours and I'm sorry they chose to stop doing this show. Life goes on.

Thanks, guys, I appreciate the support.

Whilst I'm obviously pissed at how TPN handled this, they do have a right to carry on the show. Kelly and I knew going in that we didn't really 'own' the show. That was one of our major reasons for moving on.

It would be nice if TPN gave the show a new name, but I doubt anyone will be able to convince Cam of a business case for doing so. They're all about branding here, not about people.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment and don't forget to check out The JaK Attack!, our new weekly podcast. Details at jonwatson.ca.

Without Jon and Kelly there is no GNU/Linux User Show. The Podcast Network is indeed hosting the official site for the show, however the content does not belong to The Podcast Network, or anyone else, as it is released under the Creative Commons License.

The Podcast Network should feel free to host a new podcast about GNU/Linux, but not hijacking Jon and Kelly's show, pretending that the show is the same, only with different hosts.

If The Podcast Network will continue to have a GNU/Linux podcast, it should be given a new name, and it must be made very clear that this is a new show and not in any way a continuation of The GNU/Linux User Show.
